Abstract

Bose-Einstein condensates and QFT in curved space-time

Using the analogy between gravitation and condensed matter physics, the propagation of the fluctuations in a Bose-Einstein condensate is identical to that of a massless scalar field propagating on a (fictitious) curved space-time described by an "acoustic metric". Using renormalization techniques developed in Quantum Field Theory in curved space, we can give an analytical expression for the density of non condensed particles (depletion) for a non homogeneous condensate with temperature and velocity different from zero.
