Abstract

Binary Black Holes Using Spectral Methods

Accurate numerical simulations of binary black hole spacetimes are important for extracting information from gravitational waveforms, checking the region of validity of post-Newtonian methods, testing general relativity, and for determining the astrophysical parameters (mass, spin, velocity) of the final merged black hole. In this talk I will discuss the current status of the Cornell-Caltech binary black hole simulations. I will assess the accuracy of the simulations over multiple orbits, and discuss the implications for doing meaningful physics.
