Abstract

GRB4

Initial Results from Swift/UVOT

The UltraViolet/Optical Telescope on Swift is a 30-cm Richey-Cretien reflector that provides sub-arcsecond positions, light curves on time scales from minutes to days after a GRB, and spectra covering 170 - 600 nm. We report the evolution of the brighter optical afterglows including GRB060218/SN2006aj and discuss the implications for the physics of afterglows. UVOT has also produced remarkable results on young supernovae, galactic transients, and the impact of Comet Tempel. Finally we anticipate future results from GRBs as well as a variety of interesting Targets of Opportunity from the continued operation of UVOT.
