Abstract

Duality and black hole partition functions

The thermodynamic entropy of supersymmetric (BPS) black hole solutions of string compactifications can be used to define a black hole partition function, which, according to Ooguri, Strominger and Vafa (OSV) is closely related to the partition function of the topological string. We discuss which amendments of the original proposal by OSV are necessary to make the black hole partition function duality invariant and present various checks where the entropy predicted by the black hole partition function is compared to the state degeneracy of the microscopic description of the black hole provided by string theory.
