Abstract

S1

Pre-Big Bang scenario on self-T-dual branes.

Brane cosmology and pre-Big Bang scenario are usually considered as competing models, although both based on string theory. However, we show that it is possible to implement the pre-Big Bang scenario in a brane model, by considering a brane embedded in a bulk spacetime, whose action is invariant under T-duality. It follows that the effective cosmological equations are themselves invariant, while the scale factor undergoes inversion, and the pressure of the brane matter changes sign, like in most Pre-Big Bang scenarios. It is then possible to connect the dual phases in a non-singular transition between a pre-Big Bang superinflationary Universe and a post-Big Bang accelerating one. Finally, we show that the extension of T-duality to the timelike direction might lead to a solution to the fine-tuning problem.
