Abstract

PPN1

Dynamics of compact binaries

The conservative orbital motion of spinless compact binaries will be solved analyticly up to the third post-Newtonian order. The gravitationally damped motion will be treated up to 3.5 post-Newtonian order. For special configurations in the spin-orbit and spin-spin couplings explicit orbital solutions will be presented. Estimates for innermost stable circular orbits and recoils are reported. Gravitational waveforms from various motions are presented including waveforms from binaries with extended components.

PPN1

Analytic dynamics of binary black holes

Within a conformally truncated version of the Einstein field equations an analytic solution of the binary-black-hole problem will be presented. The solution represents a non-radiative gravitational field and related herewith, a conservative dynamics of two black holes with Brill-Lindquist initial data. Various limiting cases of the solution will be discussed. The innermost stable circular orbit will be given and it will be shown that for circular orbits the ADM and Komar masses do coincide.
