Critical Behaviour in Stringy Gravity with Yang-Mills Source and Cosmological Constant

Conventional 4-dimensional space time (brane) can be embedded in a higher dimensional space time (bulk). The space time dynamics projected from the bulk to brane can be studied in the low-energy limit and leads to the modification of the Einstein equations, where the so-called "Gauss-Bonnet" term arises. There are many motivations for studying EYM localized objects in higher dimensions. They are,for example, the proposed correspondence with the AdS/CFT, the rich new structure of black hole solutions, the indication that gravitating YM dyons in 5 dimensions reduce effectively to (3+1) Einstein-Higgs-Dilaton models and the modification of the critical behaviour of the solutions at the threshold of black hole formation(Choptuik scaling). We investigate the existence of regular and critical solutions in our model.

A 5-Dimensional Yang-Mills Cosmic String

A cosmic string-like solution is found in the coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills theory in a 4- and 5-dimensional axial symmetric space time. The model depends only on two parameters, the ratio of the gravitational- to YM-coupling constant and the cosmological constant. In both solutions an angle deficit is present. The effect of a Gauss Bonnet term in the 5-dimensional model is investigated.
