Making up a short GRB: the bright fate of mergers of compact objects |
I will show that the likely fate of the merger of a neutron star with another compact object is to yield a short-lasting gamma-ray burst. By means of general of relativistic hydrodynamic simulations I will discuss some of the generic conditions under which a gamma-ray burst can be initiated in this kind of progenitor and the main characteristics of the resulting outflow. |
