Overcritical Fields - Decay of the vacuum - A Status Report

The theoretically predicted decay of the e+e- vacuum in supercritical electric fields is known for more than 30 years.[Ref.1] Recent advances in the theoretical study of the large mass transfer in collisions of e.g. U+U, U+Cm, etc. indicate long lifetimes (~10 -20s - 10 -19s) for the giant quasiatom.[Ref.2] These rather long-living quasiatoms can be triggered for by observing Pb in the final channel. The positron spectrum should then reveal the spontaneous positron emission line. The reactions U+U, U+Cm etc. have also interesting implications for the production of neutron richer isotopes of superheavy nuclei. This aspect could also be discussed. Moreover, we will explain the role of overcriticality in strong gravitational (Schwarzschild) and Reisner-Nordström-fields: Charged black holes should not exist! 1)For summary see Walter Greiner, B.
