Conformal symmetries in spherical spacetimes

We find the conformal geometry of general spherically symmetric spacetimes without specifying the form of the matter distribution. The general conformal symmetry is obtained subject to a number of integrability conditions. Earlier results relating to static spacetimes are shown to be a special case. The physically interesting case, when fluid flow lines are mapped conformally onto fluid flow lines, is solved completely. We show that there exists exact solutions of Einstein's equations for a relativistic fluid which is expanding, accelerating and shearing, consistent with a conformal symmetry.
