Abstract

Aspects of 3rd generation detectors

With the first generation of ground based gravitational wave detectors in operation at or close to design sensitivity, and plans well advanced for upgrades to form a second generation of instruments, considerable efforts are currently underway to design and carry out fundamental research towards a 3rd generation of interferometric detectors. This talk will discuss some of the motivations for, and aspects of the research towards this new generation of observatories
