Cosmic Topology and the CMB Anisotropy |
Taking the three-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) at its face value hints to a positively curved Universe possessing the geometry of one of the possible spherical space forms. It is shown that out of the infinitely many homogeneous spaces only three are in agreement with the WMAP data. These three spherical topologies offer a natural explanation for the mysteriously low power on the largest scales. In addition to a suppression of large-scale power, a multi-connected space can be revealed by its circle-in-the-sky signature. We report on a detailed search for this signature. |
