Abstract

The Swift XRT: early X-ray afterglows

XRT, the X-ray telescope on board the Swift satellite, provides rapid and uniform X-ray follow-up of gamma-ray bursts and their afterglows from seconds to weeks. We will highlight the XRT results, which include the detection of the X-ray counterparts of short bursts, the rapid decline in the early phases of the X-ray light curves, the presence of flare activities and the convergence towards a standard evolution of the afterglow light curves.
