Abstract

GW2

AIGO Stage 2

AIGO Stage 2 The Australian Consortium ACIGA has proposed a new plan for the development of AIGO. The detector would be a 5km resonant sideband extraction advanced interferometer with 100W of injected laser power. It would have an inspiral range greater than 250Mpc, and would bring about a strong enhancement of the angular resolution of the global array of detectors, while also increasing the SNR and reducing the accidental background. It would come on line at full sensitivity about two years after Advanced LIGO. Because of the long baselines and optimal alignment it will be argued that AIGO is the logical next step in the development of audio frequency band gravitational wave astronomy.
