Incompressible magnetodynamics and the tearing mode instability in relativistic magnetically dominated plasma

In this work we further develop the analytical treatment of relativistic magnetically dominated plasma. We reformulate equations of resistive force-free electrodynamics of the tearing mode in such plasma, elucidations some of the results of Lutikov (2003). To verify the predictions of the linear theory we carried out a series of 2D numerical simulations which confirm our analytical estimates. In the nonliear stage we have calculated the growth rates of perturbations of the magnetic field for various wavenumbers. We found that the magnetic field can form the structure of "chains of islands" which causes increase in the field growth rate.
