The LISA data stream will contain a large number and variety of overlapping gravitational waveforms, which makes it a challenging problem to extract information about individual sources. Detection and characterisation of sources using fully coherent matched filtering is made computationally intractable by the size of the parameter space. We have explored two different algorithms which search for regions of excess power in a time-frequency map focussing on the detection of extreme mass ratio inspirals. We will describe how these algorithms perform for source detection and how such methods could be incorporated as part of a hierarchical search of LISA data as a precursor to a targetted matched filter search. |
