Incoherent strategies for the network detection of periodic gravitational waves |

Although the detection of periodic gravitational waves can be performed by a single antenna, the use of more antennas can enhance the sensitivity and the reliability of the detection. The use of incoherent detection methods for the periodic gravitational sources, based on short FFT databases and Hough maps, has the advantage of higher robustness and lower computational cost; this permits the investigation of a larger parameter space. We propose the use of an adaptive procedure, that takes into account the (time varying) noises and radiation patterns of the antennas in order to construct more sensitive Hough maps. This method is compared to the coincidences of single antenna candidates. |
