Gravitational Effects on Neutrino Oscillations: A Means to Determine Absolute Neutrino Masses from Observation.

Abstract_

We present the possibility of determining the absolute mass of neutrinos due to gravitational interactions with their spin for a two-flavour oscillation, using time-independent perturbation theory, and without assuming any of the mass generation models available in the literature. For neutrino wave packets propagating in Lense-Thirring space-time, we predict how gravitational corrections to the oscillation length emerge for both solar neutrinos and those from supernovae. We further show that gravitation can distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos and explore whether this difference may potentially appear in the upcoming precision observation of low-energy solar neutrinos, where the predicted flux is many orders of magnitude higher than what has been currently observed by SNO and other solar neutrino observatories.
