Reflection on the event horizon - new property of black holes

Abstract_

A new quantum phenomenon on the event horizon of black holes is discussed. The traditional (classical) approach to the scattering problem presumes that a particle, which approaches the horizon would inevitably be absorbed by a black hole. The present work argues that quantum treatment results in a new effect, the reflection on the horizon. This means that there is a finite probability for the incoming particle to be reflected back, into the outside world. The probability of reflection on the horizon P depends on the energy of the incoming particle E and the Hawking temperature, P=exp(-E/T). Relation of this result with the Hawking effect is discussed. Its implications to a number of phenomena, pair production in particular are outlined.
