Can 5D Black Holes better describe Quark Gluon Plasmas at RHIC than QCD? |
Abstract _ |
The discovery of "perfect fluidity" and extreme opacity of the Quark Gluon Plasma produced in Au+Au reactions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has fueled speculations that the properties high temperature Quantum Chromodynamics matter may be easier to describe via black holes in 5D anti de Sitter spaces. I review the puzzling recent experimental results on collective flow and jet quenching and the problems with their current interpretation in terms of conventional weakly coupled quank and gluon degrees of freedom.
