Higher-Derivative Corrected Black Holes: Perturbative Stability and Perturbative Stability and Absorption Cross-Section in Higher-Derivative Heterotic String Black Holes |
Abstract _ |
This work addresses spherically symmetric, static black holes in string theory with R^2 alpha' corrections. In this framework, we develop the perturbation theory for tensor type gravitational perturbations. Next we concentrate on the Callan-Myers-Perry solution in d-dimensions, describing stringy corrections to the Schwarzschild geometry. We prove its perturbative stability in any dimension. We also study gravitational scattering at low frequencies, computing corrections arising from the R^2 term. We find that the absorption cross-section receives alpha' corrections, but it is still proportional to the area of the black hole event-horizon. We suggest an expression for this cross-section which could be valid to all orders in \alpha'. |
