Gravitational collapse in electrically charged Lanczos-Lovelock avity: Hamiltomian formulation |
Abstract _ |
The Hamiltonian treatment of the collapse of thin shells in static, electrically charged Lanczos-Lovelock theories, with an AdS vacuum, is developed. After writing the action in Hamiltonian form, we integrate the super-hamiltonian constraint along the infinitesimal radius of the thin shell and recover in a compact way the shell's equation of radial motion, in conformity with Israel's original procedure. An analysis of the equation and its solutions is then presented. In contrast with the uncharged collapse, we show that no naked singularities form, not even in the exceptional Chern-Simons case. Only black holes and bounces (either oscilatory or unbound) can appear. The electric charge provides thus a mechanism for cosmic censorship. |
