Fragmentation of general relativistic quasi-toroidal polytropes |
Abstract _ |
We investigate fragmentation instabilities and black hole formation in general relativistic, almost toroidal polytropes. From the set of models investigated in this study, many are unstable to non-axisymmetric perturbations, which lead to fission into one or several orbiting fragments. These fragments may collapse, and we discuss whether a multiple black hole merger system with a disk can be produced from a single star in this manner. |
