First post-Newtonian gravitational wave extraction from core collapse simulations.

Abstract_

We present a new procedure to extract gravitational waveforms from compact objects using a first post-Newtonian quadrupole formula. The new formula improves the gravitational wave extraction with respect to the Newtonian quadrupole formula, by increasing the accuracy and removing some inconsistencies. In order to calculate the new waveform a Poisson equation for an auxiliary potential has to be solved. We use this new formula to extract gravitational waveforms from simulations of rotational core collapse to neutron stars and pulsations of rotating neutron stars. These simulations are performed with a general relativistic hydrodynamics code in the conformally flat approximation (CFC) of the metric.
