Effective Field Equations for Charged Scalar during Inflation

Abstract_

I solve the linearized effective field equations at one loop order for a charged, massless and minimally coupled scalar in a locally de Sitter background. The quantum correction --- the one loop self-mass --- was computed in two different gauges: a simple one which takes account of the photon's conformal invariance in four dimensions and a de Sitter invariant analogue of Lorentz gauge. In each case dimensional regularization was used and fully renormalized results were obtained. It is possible to choose the finite parts of counterterms in such a way that the scalar mode functions acquire no significant one loop corrections at late times.
