Clues to to the Production of GRBs from the Nature of their Host |

GRBs are produced by the collapse of massive stars. Here we show, however, that GRBs form in different types of host galaxies and in different locations on their hosts than the vast majority of core-collapse supernovae. GRBs tend to form in the very brightest regions of small, irregular galaxies. We argue that this results from a preference for GRB formation in low-metallicity regions. |
