The commissioning of the Virgo interferometer is presented. We will first describe the main steps performed from the beginning, in September 2003, and the correspondent increases of the instrument sensitivity and reliability. In particular we will discuss the problems encountered and the changes made with respect to the detector original design. We will then focus the attention on the description of the main noise sources currently limiting the detector sensitivity and the solutions planned to reach the design performances. |
