Dimensional regularization of the gravitational interaction of point masses in ADM formalism |
Abstract _ |
The ADM formalism for two-point-mass systems in $d$ space dimensions will be presented. The post-Newtonian expansion of the ADM reduced Hamiltonian will be exhibited up to the 3PN order. The regularization ambiguities of the 3PN Hamiltonian considered directly in $d=3$ space dimensions will be discussed. By contrast, it will be shown that dimensional continuation (to complex $d$'s) leads to a finite and unique Hamiltonian as $d\to3$. |
