Effective Field Theory Approach to Compact Body Interactions |

Using techniques from effective field theories developed for quantum systems, I will show how one can calculate in a systematic fashion within a world-line approximation by properly separating scales of the graviton modes in a coordinate invariant way. By working at the level of the Lagrangian all point particle divergences are removed via standard renormalization techniques. Finite size effects are included systematically by the inclusion of higher dimensional world line operators. These operator encode the short distance information about the compact object and also allow us to include dissipative effects in a systematic fashionl. I will also how how spin may be included and how this approach can be used to calculate equations of motion due to radiation reaction. |
