Non-standard relativistic tests with astrometry

Abstract_

The potential of high-accuracy positional measurements for testing relativity is reviewed. Along with the standard tests like the determination of the PPN parameter gamma, a number of other tests which are less known are possible. Among these tests are a direct measurement of the solar system acceleration relative to quasars (important to justify the realistic accuracy of the double pulsar test), an estimate of the magnitude of the background gravitational waves of untra-low frequency, and a test of local Lorentz invariance. The prospects of the planned space astrometry mission (first of all of Gaia) for this kind of tests are discussed.
