The landscape of N=2 superconformal field theories

We descibe a class of eleven dimensional geometries which are dual to four dimensional quantum field theories with N=2 supersymmetry. The field theories can be constructed as generalized quivers. The geometries are constructed from a Riemann surfaces.

We review the relation betwen gravity and local quantum field theories, includding some recent progress.

Black holes as a source of information

We will review the duality between gravity in negatively curved spacetimes and quantum field theories on the boundary. Black holes in these spacetimes represent finite temperature configurations for the theory on the boundary. The classical dynamics of these black holes can be used to get some insight into strongly coupled quantum systems.
