Permanent neutron star quadrupoles |
I summarize recent developments on "permanent" neutron star quadrupoles, often called mountains, both normal nuclear matter in the crust and possible exotic solid phases in the core. After summarizing theoretical work I outline the observational consequences, especially in relation to continuous gravitational waves and magnetar flares. |
