Abstract

COT2

Covariant coarse graining of the fluid flow in GR

I will present a new, entirely covariant approach to coarse-graining of variables describing the fluid flow in GR. It is based on assigning quasi-local shear, twist and expasion to 2-dimensional surfaces and deriving for them the generalized Raychaudhuri equation, which includes the backreaction terms. The construction employs an isometric embedding into the Euclidean space and thus allows to average tensorial quantities in a geometric way. The presented framework can be used to estimate backreaction in inhomogeneous cosmological models.
