Black hole entropy discretization in loop quantum gravity

Loop quantum gravity provides a description of the microscopic degrees of freedom responsible for black hole entropy, in terms of the quantum geometrical states of an isolated horizon. When an exact counting of these quantum states is performed, an effective discretizaton of entropy is obtained for microscopic black holes, showing agreement in a certain precise sense with the heuristic discretization proposed in the so-called Bekenstein's conjecture.
