Abstract

GW3

Which optical topologies are suitable for ET?

This presentation will give an overview of the work in progress to select on optical design in the Einstein Telescope (ET) design study, with special focus on the interferometer layout. Designing and eventually building an instrument ten times more sensitive than the goal for advanced detectors calls for new technologies. A number of exciting ideas have been put forward, such as, for example, optical bars (utilising radiation pressure), xylophones (multiple adjacent narrowband ETs) or `flat beams' (reducing thermal noise). As part of the ET design study the cross-compatibility and technical readiness of such ideas is being investigated. We will describe some key features of proposed new optical technologies and discuss example scenarios.
