Abstract

Evolving Newton's constant in Higher Derivative Theories

Modified Gravity models have a very distinct signature: a time and scale dependent Newton's constant G_eff(k,a). In this talk we will derive an effective Newtonian gravitational constant for a class of higher derivative theories and we will use the primordial nucleosynthesis (BBN) bounds and the local gravity constraints on $G_{eff}$ in order to test the viability of several cases of our general Lagrangian. Finally, we will also consider modified gravity models with an arbitrary coupling between matter and geometry and we will follow the same programme.
