Abstract

The AURIGA gravitational wave detector: long term operation and active cooling

The second AURIGA scientific run is in progress since May 2005. I will summarize the data quality and the observational limits for the whole period of data acquisition. To the sole purpose of improving the electronics stability and easing the data analysis, AURIGA employs an electronic feedback cooling scheme on the detector. I will report about recent results obtained by playing on this system which is able to cool a massive electromechanical system to submillikelvin temperature. The capability and the impact on the overall detector sensitivity of the active cooling will be also discussed.
