Abstract

Implications of the Running of the Planck Mass for Particle Physics

The value of the Planck mass, i.e. the energy scale at which quantum gravitational effects become strong, is very sensitive to the number of quantum fields in a given model. We show that this phenomenon can have deep consequences for models of grand unification but also potentially for physics at the Large Hadron Collider where quantum black holes could be produced if there is a large hidden sector in Nature that interacts only gravitationally with the fields of the standard model of particle physics.
