Abstract

APT3

Ten Years of Chandra

Since its launch in July 1999 the Chandra X-Ray Observatory has lead the field of X-ray astronomy to amazing discoveries and unprecedented levels of advancement. Unbelievably sharp X-ray images of star forming regions, supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae, jets, galaxies, and galaxy clusters have shaped the X-ray universe as we know it today. High resolution X-ray spectra of collisional and photo-ionized plasmas in the vicinity of stars, neutron stars, and black holes provided insights in physical processes for a range of gravitational environments. This presentation shows many of the highlights from Chandra's ten year long journey so far and provides a glimpse of the road ahead.
