Abstract

COM1

Quantum backreaction in spacetimes with constant deceleration

We consider the one loop backreaction of a massless scalar field which couples to the Ricci scalar in an expanding space with constant deceleration. We show that the infrared divergences, which generically plague the one loop stress energy, can be removed by matching onto an earlier radiation era. We find that the one loop backreaction is small, unless the coupling to the Ricci scalar is negative. Similar results are expected to hold for the graviton backreaction.

COT4

Quantum backreaction in spacetimes with constant deceleration

[NB: The same talk has been registered for section COM1; COT4 is more suitable] We consider the one loop backreaction of a massless scalar field which couples to the Ricci scalar in an expanding space with constant deceleration. We show that the infrared divergences, which generically plague the one loop stress energy, can be removed by matching onto an earlier radiation era. We find that the one loop backreaction is small, unless the coupling to the Ricci scalar is negative. Similar results are expected to hold for the graviton backreaction.
