Abstract

Effective Field Theory and the Radiation Sector

This talk describes recent progress in the effective field theory treatment of binary inspirals, in particular in the radiation sector. Here, short distance effects arise from a matching calculation and long distance effects arise from non-linear interactions of multipoles. In the long distance calculations many interesting effects arise, such as infrared and ultraviolet divergences in the amplitudes. We will describe how these divergences are removed from observables and comment on the related physical effects from renormalization group running as well as the resummation of the leading contributions of the tail effect.
