Abstract

Spin contributions to the momentum transport by gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries

We compute the spin-orbit contribution to the linear momentum carried away by the gravitational radiation escaping a merging black hole binary system on eccentric orbit in the inspiral phase. We then average the instantaneous expressions over one period of the radial motion by use of suitably chosen parametrizations and the residue theorem. We monitor the effect of the mass ratio and individual spins on the magnitude and orientation of the averaged momentum loss. These equations supplement our earlier results on energy loss and angular momentum radiated away, such that we obtain a closed sytem of first order differential equations, suitable for numerical evolution of the dynamics of the system.

3+1+1 covariant gravitational dynamics

We derive the full set of evolution and constraint equations governing gravitational dynamics in a 3+1+1 covariant form, for applications to brane-world physics. We decompose the geometry, the sources and the Lanczos equation. We also discuss the gauge freedom related to the linear order frame transformations. This formalism is both a generalization of the brane 3+1 covariant cosmology (which in turn is a generalization of the general relativistic 3+1 covariant cosmology) and of the s+1+1 covariant brane-world dynamics for the case of a velocity field with vorticity.
