Force-Free Magnetic Fields on an Extreme Reissner-Nordstrom Black Hole Spacetime and the Meissner Effect

It is known that stationary axisymmetric magnetic fields in vacumm are expelled from the event horizon of an extreme Kerr black hole. This is analogous to the Meissner effect in superconductors. Astrophysically, it is important to study the Meissner effect of the black holes, for exapmle, for clarifying the efficiency of the Blandford-Znajek mechanism. In this talk, instead of extreme Kerr black holes, we consider extreme Reissner-Nordstrom black holes which also exhibit the Meissner effect, for simplicity. We show the Meissner effect disappears if there exists a current in a stationary axisymmetric and force-free electromagnetic system.
