Abstract

The gravitational description of black hole microstates

String theory suggests that the microstates of black holes are decribed by regular geometries without horizons. These microstate geometries differ significantly form the classical black hole geometry at scales of order of the horizon radius. The deviations from the classical geometry carry the information on the particular microstate and potentially solve the information paradox problem. We will review this proposal, and outline recent developments and open problems.
