Abstract

PS

Black holes and linear waves

Behavior of linear waves on black hole backgrounds is a fundamental question, intimately connected to one of the central problems in General Relativity -- nonlinear stability of black holes. It is not until recently however that even the basic quantitative properties, for example boundedness and decay, were established in the description of the global behavior of waves on black hole space-times. The talk will review our current mathematical understanding of this problem.
