Abstract

Big Bounce in inhomogeneous cosmologies

The Gowdy spacetimes describe vacuum cosmological spacetimes which contain gravitational waves. Recently, the case of the family of Gowdy spacetimes with the spatial topology of a three-torus and linearly polarized waves was studied by means of a hybrid quantization which combines loop and Fock techniques. Here, we study the effective dynamics of this hybrid system with analytical and computational methods. We show that, like in homogeneous models, the Big Bang is replaced by a Big Bounce that joins two large universes. The volume of the universe at the bounce is of the same order of magnitude as in the absence of inhomogeneities. Finally we show that, for the (time scaled) amplitude of each mode of the gravitational waves, the difference at very early and very late times vanishes in average in generic situations.
