Talk Title

Self-force and radial fall

Abstract

Free fall has signed the greatest markings in physics and the the study of motion of the capture of stars by supemassive black holes will constitute a giant step forward in the understanding of gravitation in a strong field. After a brief review dealing with the Schwarzschild last century debate on the existence of repulsion and on the maximal speed of the infalling particles, an account on the state of the art of the application of the self-force to this classical problem is given. New results are presented showing the effect of radiation reaction on the waveforms via energy balance.
