Talk Title

Massive scalar self force of a point-like particle

Abstract

I present the equation of motion of a point-like particle, which interacts with its own radiated massive scalar field in a curved spacetime background. The method I use to regularize the self force is consistent with Quinn's axiomatic approach, which was derived for the case of massless scalar field. I also present the expansion of the equation of motion for large scalar mass up to the first non-vanishing order. This expansion makes the non-local part of the self-interaction local and it might be a good approximation in some physically relevant cases. The results are applied to describe pion radiation by protons near the surface of strongly magnetized magnetars.
