Streaming instabilities in the relativistic regime |

Abstract |
The unstable spectrum of a beam-plasma system is at least two-dimensional, but a 1D analysis is enough to interpret non-relativistic systems. In the relativistic regime, a large number of modes can lead the linear unstable phase, and the corresponding analysis is more involved. Recent progresses made in the understanding of these systems will be reviewed, and the consequences for the physics of relativistic shocks emphasized. |
