Talk Title

The CRESST dark matter search

Abstract

CRESST is a cryogenic dark matter search located in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. Small energy transfers expected from elastic WIMP nucleus collisions in 300 g CaWO4 target crystals are detected by superconducting phase transition thermometers. An efficient discrimination of nuclear recoils from radioactive backgrounds is achieved by a simultaneous registration of the scintillation light also produced in CaWO4. CRESST has demonstrated the success of this method in a commissioning run in 2007 and has now further optimized detectors and set-up to further improve background discrimination and sensitivity. This talk will briefly discuss the performance the CRESST detectors and then focus on the latest developments and status of the experiment.
